Astravo is a small but professional brewery in northern Lithuania. We brew our beer in almost the same way our ancestors did. This is precisely what makes it different from beer that is brewed in large quantities, both in terms of its body, taste, aroma, and head, as well as the heart that is put into each beer. Northern Lithuania has long been known as a beer region. The tradition of estate breweries began back in the 17th century, when the Radvila (Radziwiłł) nobles dwelled in the Biržai environs. It was at that time that the first brewery was founded in Lithuania. But even then, beer brewing was not a privilege for the nobility alone. Many people in this area used to brew – and still do – the legendary home-made Biržai beer. Making beer at home for commercial purposes in Lithuania was, and still is, prohibited, so when the country\'s independence was restored in 1991, a group of Biržai beer enthusiasts opened a brewery and began to brew beer for a wider audience.
