125 years in the beautiful cellar of the Stadskasteel Klein Fresenburg at the Oudegracht 111 yard in Utrecht where many bottles of wine are ripening.
Along the unique medieval sailing route Oudegracht in Utrecht, more than 125 years of wine business Van Wageningen and de Lange has been established. This company is the only one remaining from the many wine merchants who have been housed in the cellars between the Stadhuisbrug and the Weerdpoort since the 14th century. Van Wageningen and de Lange still belong to the best wine importers in the Netherlands, with a range that meets the classic wine lover, but also regularly has surprising new acquisitions. The cellars under Oudegracht 111 are classically decorated, and the wine lover is welcome to come and admire the collection of old objects in addition to the fine wines.
Van Wageningen and de Lange are located in the cellars of the medieval building Klein Fresenburg, named after the 13th-century rich brick builder Lambrecht Frese. The history of this wine trade in these cellars starts at the end of the 19th century. Along the Oudegracht, many more wine merchants were established, including Andrau under the current Rembrandt cinema and Finjé near the Stadhuisbrug. The founder of the current firm is Bernard Moltzer, who started an agency for Bordeaux wines from De Bourran Frères in 1886. Moltzer initially had his storage a bit further, in the cellars under the house Groot Blankenburch. From 1889, however, an old address book that De Bourran Frères was based on Oudegracht 113.
