Chianti Classico stretches between Florence and Siena and includes only 14 municipalities: the whole territory of Greve in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti and Radda in Chianti, and part of the territory of Barberino Val d'Elsa, San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa within the Province of Florence, and part of the territory of Castelnuovo Berardenga and Poggibonsi in the province of Siena. In this small wine-region is produced one of the best-known and appreciated wines: the Chianti Classico Wine (surname of the wine). It's included in the Super-Tuscan wines and has been produced here for over 2000 years, since Etruscan time. This Tuscan region was named Chianti and recognized as a wine-region since 13th century and its borders were defined in 1716 by an edict issued by Gran duke Cosimo III de' Medici. What makes unique Chianti Classico compared to other Chianti wines is the unmistakable pink label with the Black Rooster seal. This particular label is the symbol of the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium, founded in 1924 to protect, promote this wine and prevent wine fraud. Mazza’s farm has an extension of 65 hectares, of which 35 hectares are vineyards is 300 meters on sea level with south and south-west exposure for the Chianti Classico and Igt Toscano production. In the last years vineyards have been planted with a density of 4500 plants per hectare of Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo for the red wine and Trebbiano, Vermentino and Ansonica for the white wine production. The new cellar built in 2006 allows to work grapes in the best way thanks also to modern wine-making technology, by being able to ferment to a controlled temperature the whole wine production and by keeping the temperature of wine always the same so to guarantee the qualitative stability. The wines produced are CHIANTI CLASSICO “SER GINO” which places itself as the main product of the farm, ROSSO TOSCANO IGT “MARIANO” , BIANCO TOSCANO IGT “ADINO”, VIN SANTO DOC “UVETA” and two types of GRAPPA distilled from fresh grapes of CHIANTI CLASSICO complete the range
