13th November, 2014 by Neal Baker - Heineken beer brand Newcastle has launched the first of its “collaborations”, teaming with Scottish sister-brewery Caledonian to create a new ale for the US market.
Actor and online personality Wil Wheaton is the face of the new series.
The brewery, famous for its Brown Ale, is kicking off a brand new series of “collaboration” beers – made with some of Europe’s oldest breweries – with this release.
The Newcastle Scotch Ale collaboration is a limited-time offering from Newcastle and Caledonian that aims to represent “the best of English and Scottish brewing: a rich, full-flavoured and fulfilling Scottish ale with toffee notes at 6.4% abv”, according to a Heineken statement.
“Scotch Ale is a bold yet balanced beer that will please lifelong Newcastle fans as well as more adventurous drinkers,” it said.
The series has the backing of actor and blogger Wil Wheaton, famous for his role as Gordie in coming-of-age classic Stand By Me and in the Star Trek franchise as Wesley Crusher.
