Teeling debuts inaugural TR-exclusive whiskey
Irish whiskey brand Teeling has launched its first travel retail-exclusive bottling – a 12-year-old expression that has undergone maturation in ex-Cognac casks.
Launched by Bacardi Global Travel Retail, the Teeling Whiskey Explorers Edition is made with a blend of 12-year-old malt and grain Irish whiskeys.
After maturing for 12-years, the malt and grain whiskeys were blended together and underwent further maturation in ex-Cognac casks.
Julie Witherden, marketing director at Bacardi Global Travel Retail, said: “There is strong momentum in the revival of the Irish whiskey category in many markets including travel retail, where Teeling Whiskey grew by 36% vs 2017.
“The Teeling Whiskey Explorers Edition is expertly positioned for our travelling consumer with an evocative story, inspired by intrepid Irish explorers who have travelled the world in search of adventure and discovery.”
Teeling Whiskey Explorers Edition is said to have aromas of apples, vanilla, honey, stewed grapes, and dried coconut. On the palate, it has flavours of peaches, cream, toasted wood and pepper spice with a dry tannic finish.
Bottled at 46% abv without chill filtration, 6,000 bottles of Explorers Edition are available from World Duty-Free stores in the UK for £81.50 (US$102) in a 700ml gift pack.
Matt Scott-Fairweather, liquor product, and promotions manager UK, Finland, Sweden and Germany for Dufry, said: “Our customers are always looking for something unique that they can’t find anywhere else, so we’re very pleased to be the only retailer to offer the Teeling Whiskey Explorers Edition.
“Irish whiskey is an exciting category that intrigues many different types of shopper and we’re sure this limited edition will be a big hit.”
