TJ Douglas is tired of being one of the only people of color in the wine industry. As the co-owner of the wine shop Urban Grape in the South End, Douglas is often the only non-white attendee at wine conferences and industry trips around the world. He thinks it’s about time for that to change.

To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Urban Grape, Douglas and wife and co-owner, Hadley Douglas, launched a program last month called The Urban Grape Wine Studies Award for Students of Color. The program, which they’ve dreamed about starting for years, ­aims to increase opportunities for people of color in the wine industry.
