Urban Grape owners start program to promote diversity in wine industry

TJ Douglas is tired of being one of the only people of color in the wine industry. As the co-owner of the wine shop Urban Grape in the South End, Douglas is often the only non-white attendee at wine conferences and industry trips around the world. He thinks it’s about time for that to change.
To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Urban Grape, Douglas and wife and co-owner, Hadley Douglas, launched a program last month called The Urban Grape Wine Studies Award for Students of Color. The program, which they’ve dreamed about starting for years, aims to increase opportunities for people of color in the wine industry.
